I find it interesting the aspects of culture and role identities. Being a public relations professional, we are required to work globally. Many agencies have offices in China, Europe and other countries. Not only are re to adapt our customs to the foreign client’s needs but also to the people working in the offices there. This includes body language, dress and style of talk. One company is making this more important, Cisco. They have software that creates a real life round table meeting with as many people as you want. Everything is life-size and it appears that they are right across from you. The best part is that you can have multiple locations on the screens and hold a meeting with all countries, but feel like you never left your office. Sometimes it is important to have a face-to-face meeting. A lot can be discovered in a handshake and they way one treats you in person opposed to technologically.

Kolby, I really liked reading your post. I have always wondered how global companies did not step on each others toes because of different cultural customs. Who in a company setting is supposed to conform to whos cultural ways of life. I think that it is interesting that there is new technology that allows meeting to be set up where you don't have to leave you office to meet someone across the globe. I also think that it would be interesting to meet people from different cultures even in a work setting to get a better understanding of how their way of life is.
ReplyDeleteKolby,
ReplyDeleteYou bring up an interesting point in regards to culture and role identities. I had previously discussed the impact of globalization in our society. We are continuing to expand and utilize the entire globe. Modern day communicative technology has allowed us to connect with other countries with a click of a button, as you mentioned. I believe this will continue to grow and evolve over time. It really makes you think about, what could possibly happen in the future? The main point here is the increasing amount of interaction we will continue to have with other cultural groups. Intercultural communication will only become more important through the years.
